The current controversy over Donald Trump’s firing of a Federal Reserve Board member comes down to two things:
The utter hared of Donald Trump by the Deep State and those who profit from a huge federal government.
The fact that the person Trump fired, Lisa Cook, has dark skin.
It is a matter of faith among liberals, especially in the media, that there is no legal justification for the firing of anyone who can be classified as African-American. Although all laws on the subject call for equal protection of every American, we all know what that—wink, wink—really means. It’s not whether Lisa Cook has done something that merits her firing, it is the belief that, short of mass murder, she can’t be fired for anything at all without it being labeled an act of overt racism.
People defending Cook are involved in the controversy because they know that she deserves the post due to her previous experience as a—um, as a…well, whatever she did, they know she did it well and certainly has earned her current position on the—well, something official and important, that’s for sure.
In reality, the people angered over Trump’s attempt to fire Lisa Cook are angry over the two reasons listed above. They don’t know or care about anything else. The British Broadcasting Company says it all in a caption to a photograph of Cook: “Cook is one of seven members of the Fed's board of governors and the first African American woman to serve in the role.”
Nothing else matters. Nothing.
Cook attended Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia as an undergraduate. Spelman is a historically-black college, just as is Howard University in Washington, attended by our almost-president Kamala Harris.
Lisa Cook received a diploma from Spelman and then the race was on to make her wonderful. She was sent to Oxford for another BA and she then received her Master’s from Cheikh Anta Diop University, well known for its—um, what?
Turns out Cheikh Anta Diop University is in Dakar, Senegal, a former French colony way out on the eastern coast of Africa. As Wikipedia notes, “All courses at the university are taught in French, except those in language departments other than French.”
Which means that Lisa Cook must clearly be fluent in French, n’est-ce pas? After all, she spent two years there parley-vooing with the professors and all those fellow students from former French colonies dans le monde Africain. Perhaps she would enjoy amazing us rubes by being interviewed in that language for any hearings on her firing.
Following her time in Senegal and her maybe-receipt of a Master’s degree there (Wikipedia isn’t sure, saying “she took courses towards a Master’s degree in philosophy” at the school). she decided to get a PhD in economics from the University of California, Berkeley, that respected American school named Most Likely to Be Remembered Fondly by Communists. Surprise! Cook’s PhD dissertation was “on the underdevelopment of the banking system in czarist and post-Soviet Russia.” Her theory: Communists good, everyone before and after, bad.
During the occasionally-contested and possibly stolen administration of Joseph Biden, Cook was nominated for a term on the Federal Reserve Board of Governors. Not a single Republican (all bigots) in the Senate voted for her, with some having the temerity to call her “unqualified and a left-wing extremist.” The Atlanta Constitution said “some Republicans argue her degrees, research and decades of work were not relevant to the role of the Fed in managing monetary policy.” To quote a Mr. B. Bunny: “Mmm, it’s a possibility.”
Well, that’s just mean. Although her only pre-PhD studies of economics were about a third of her work at Oxford (along with philosophy and politics), Cook was approved for the job by a 50-to-49 vote, with the tie-breaking ballot cast by fellow HBCU alum Kamala Harris.
Cook should not tolerate her treatment by Republicans. She should instead deliver them a disquisition on Ricardo’s Theory of Comparative Advantage in French, ad lib, just to show who knows what. I look forward to it. (J’ai hâte d'y être, though admittedly, I had to look that one up).
As to why the president can’t fire someone from the Fed (or maybe can), we’ll look into that tomorrow. And yes, I know that’s not a Federal Reserve note above. It’s kind of the point.
Nailing it as usual, Rene. Thank you.
It’s taken us probably two decades or more, but DJT has led the way in showing everyone what a steel spine looks like… a spine that withstands the childish, idiotic “racist” whine of the liberal left.
Lisa Cook is unqualified for the position as a governor of the Federal Reserve Board. Her CV is manufactured, plain & simple. Yet, she is not the only one. Danielle DiMartino Booth said as much about prior governors of the Fed some 10 yrs ago in her book, FED UP.
Oh, wanna see a CV that is NOT manufactured yet is earned the proper way?… see Danielle’s resume. That is competence. This is expertise. That is the cream rising to the crop.
Danielle can talk circles around Lisa about economics or finance or money policy, and that’s with one arm tied behind her back. And she doesn’t even need to do it in French either. 😏
